Those of you who know me know that I have a bit of a fetish for S. x excellens, so I thought I'd give a bit of an update on some of the plants that currently reside in my collection. Some are looking better than ever, some need a little more time to mature. Anyway, let the show begin:

SH16 S. x excellens - Fragrant pitchers (Mrs Loakesy thinks this plant smells like vinegar!)

SH45 S. x excellens 'Loch Ness' pretender - Yellow flower (with new and mature pitchers)

SH46 S. x excellens - Yellow flower

SH47 S. x excellens

SH48 S. x excellens - ex Jean-Jacques Labat of "Nature et Paysage"

SH51 S. x excellens - Slack's own cross

SH53 S. x excellens - Ex Marston Exotics

SH60 S. x excellens - Red flower (I actually think this plant looks more like a x readii!)

SH61 S. x excellens

SH62 S. x excellens

SH64 S. x excellens

SH69 S. x excellens - ex Woodcote Green Nursaries

SH70 S. x excellens - Green flower

That's about it! I hope you can see how and why I enjoy the diversity of this cross.

If anyone has any other types of this beautiful hybrid (particularly if the parents are known, or you ave a provenance) I might be very interested!!!

Plenty of variation at your place!

You will probably appreciate this one - a m X l clone I produced back in 1998 that I was very happy with. Still love it.

The flared hood being a fine feature, pitchers are ~600mm and very strong walled and strong at base so not prone to flopping over.

If you lived next door you could certainly have one.....

and the flower...

Oh I'm in love with your SH64, let me know if you have a spare. Have you any additional informations about this clone?

I don't own S. X excellens but I have a couple of back-cross:

S. x excellens X S. minor: LINK1 - LINK2

S. x excellens X S. leucophylla: LINK1 - LINK2

I have just discovered that I have conflicting information about that plant. The IPforum growlist shows that I got it from Reis van Ool, but my off-line database shows Rogier van Loenen, so the honest answer is: I'm not sure! Certainly one or the other (though I suspect the former is more likely!), and I have had plants from both in the past. As to other information, I have none. I will have to take a trip to the greenhouse soon, so I'll see if I can split it at all, if so I may be able to let you have a piece if you're still interested.

I really like your S. x excellens X leucophylla, perhaps we could trade if we both have spares?

Andy,

I know both guys pretty well, do you still have the former clone number of the plant ?

I may be able to help you sort this out.

Laurens

Unfortunately I don't have that information, which actually makes me think that it came from Reis van Ool. The reason for this is that my hard-drive corrupted recently (a few months ago), and I lost my entire CP database. I had to re-build it using the on-lone grow-list and various other scraps of information I was able to find. This in turn means that I have most likely mis-transcribed "(RvO)" (which is what I found on-line) into "Rogier van Loenen" (which is what I have off-line!). Does that make sense?

If either RvL or RvO recognise the plant, maybe they could comment!

Hi Andy,

That indeed does makes sence, I've made this mistake a few times myself, don't know why though.
I will send you a pm with both their email adresses and maybe you can email them a photograph of it.
I think this won't be such a problem because the plant you have there is very strange for an S.x exellens.
I haven't seen Ries online ever on this forum, and I don't know if Rogier has an account over here...Maybe emailing is a better way.
Your pm is on it's way!

Good luck with finding the history about it!

All the Best,

Laurens

STOP PRESS

I have just had a response from Reis, and he has confirmed that the plant came from him. His plant originally came from our very own Sheila Little!

A little strange, though, I bought another x excellens from Reis at the same time (my SH63, not shown in this thread because it was too small) which he apparantly obtained from Rogier van Loenen! How spooky is that?!

I thought that looked very much like the one I have, but there are so many different clones that are very similar you can never be sure. I remember selling a division to Reis about three years ago with a few other plants.

I bought the original plant from Marston Exotics about 17 yesrs ago. Marston Exotics have since been taken over by P&J Plants.. It's still one of my favourites in the greenhouse.

Good to read things are cleared up, I could acknowledge already earlier by pm to Andy I am 100% sure this clone didn't came from me, so it is a clear case. ;).gif

Wish you best of luck rebuilding your data, I hope you can come around 100%

Thanks Rogier. Apart from a recently spotted transcription error, and a few indeciferable sources, the main piece of data I am missing is the dates I received the plants. The re-build was made much easier by having my forum grow-list on line!

I am also missing some seed data. I have the codes, and I pretty much know what seeds I had and sowed last year, but can't marry them all up.
